Initiative for ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty

Mostar, February 19, 2019 - Director of the Institute for Intellectual Property of Bosnia and Herzegovina Josip Merdžo has sent the initiative to start the process of ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled.

Initiative was submitted to the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina through the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the competent institution for assessing the justification of the initiation of proceedings. Along with the initiative, a proposal with basis for negotiating the ratification of the Treaty was submitted.

Marrakesh Treaty was adopted on June 27, 2013 and it forms part of the body of international copyright treaties administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). It has a clear humanitarian and social development dimension and its main goal is to create a set of mandatory limitations and exceptions for the benefit of blind, visually impaired and people with other disabilities for which they cannot use printed materials.
