BiH ratifies Marrakesh Treaty
Mostar, September 4, 2020 - After the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina gave its consent to ratification, the Presidency of BiH ratified the Marrakesh Treaty of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired, or Otherwise Print Disabled.
Marrakesh Treaty forms part of international copyright treaties administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). It has a clear humanitarian and social development dimension and its main goal is to create a set of mandatory limitations and exceptions for the benefit of the blind, visually impaired, and otherwise print disabled.
The initiative for ratification procedure of
the Marrakesh Agreement came from the director of the Institute for
Intellectual Property of Bosnia and Herzegovina Josip Merdžo, who sent an
initiative to the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, through the
Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, to assess the justification
of commencing ratification procedure.
Marrakesh Treaty has been in force in the
European Union since January 1, 2019 and covers another 70 countries around the
world.
