Webinar "Intellectual Property for Business Entities" held

 

 

MOSTAR, April 28, 2021 - As part of the celebration of World Intellectual Property Day, on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, a webinar entitled "Intellectual Property for Business Entities" was held.

The training was intended for business entities, business support organizations as well as those who are professionally interested in this issue.

Intellectual property is an "intangible" asset, but very often the most valuable asset of a company that needs to be continuously improved, but also legally protected from potential misuse. Having in mind the importance of intellectual property in today's business environment, as well as the need to raise awareness about its protection, the webinar presented thematic units related to patents, trademarks, industrial design and geographical indications.

Introductory speeches were given by Senad Hromić from the Education Sector of the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH, Elma Kovačević-Bajtal, Director of the Institute for Education of the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH, Dijana Prljić from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, and on behalf of the Institute for Intellectual Property of Bosnia and Herzegovina Srećko Rikalo, head of the Department for International Patent, who continued with a presentation on patent protection before the Institute.

The presentation covered the following topics: "What is a patent and how is it protected?", "Patent protection procedure", "Importance of patent protection", "Duration of patent protection", "Changes and termination of patents" and "How to protect a patent abroad?".

Irma Delibašić, an expert on national trademarks at the Institute, spoke about the protection of a trademark before the Institute for Intellectual Property of BiH, and she had a presentation with the following topics: "What is a trademark and how is it protected?", "Relative reasons for refusing a trademark application","Trademark protection procedure","Significance of trademark protection","Duration of trademark protection","Changes and termination of trademark validity", and "How to protect a trademark abroad?"

Goran Trifković, expert advisor for industrial design at the Institute for Intellectual Property of BiH held a presentation on the protection of industrial design before the Institute within the following thematic units: "What is industrial design?", "Advantages and importance of industrial design protection", "Industrial design protection procedure”,“Changes and termination of industrial design” and “How and why to protect industrial design abroad? ”.

Miroslav Marić, expert advisor for international trademarks at the Institute, spoke about protection of indications of geographical origin before the Institute for Intellectual Property of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The topics covered were: "What is an indication of geographical origin?", "Subject of geographical indications protection", "Procedure for the protection of geographical indications", "International systems for the protection of geographical indications" and "Economic importance of protection of geographical indications".

The webinar brought together about fifty participants from business, academia and lawyers.

The webinar was organized by the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Institute for Intellectual Property of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
