WHO - WIPO - WTO workshop on innovation and access to COVID-19 technologies

Mostar, September 20, 2021 - World Health Organization (WHO), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and World Trade Organization (WTO) jointly organize a workshop entitled "Innovation in, and Access to, COVID-19 Technologies - intellectual property licensing, technology transfer, and sharing of know-how and clinical trial information”.

Workshop will be held in virtual form on Thursday, September 27, 2021 from 1 to 4 p.m. 

Representatives of WHO, WIPO and WTO members, as well as representatives of candidates for WTO membership can participate. Online registration can be done until September 26, 2021. Workshop will be held in English, without translation. Temporary program is available here.

As part of the Trilateral Cooperation, the Directors General of the WTO, WHO and WIPO agreed, within the existing collaboration framework, to organize practical capacity-building workshops at the technical level to enhance the flow of updated information on current developments in the pandemic and responses to achieve equitable access to COVID-10 health technologies. This workshop will convey information to enhance knowledge and understanding of how IP, know-how and technology transfer work in practice, vis-à-vis medical technologies and related products and services.

More specifically, the workshop aims to strengthen members’ capacity to assess and respond to COVID-19 technology needs; review terms and conditions that contribute to successful technology licensing, including public health-oriented licensing, as well as pooling of IP and knowledge; share information about how WHO, WIPO and WTO can help their members to develop an enabling eco-system for international technology transfer; and more, organizers announced.
