MoU between BiH IP Institute and Turkish Patent Institute

GENEVA, October 11, 2016 - As part of the 56th regular annual general assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) member states, taking place in Geneva from October 3 to 11,  director of the Institute for Intellectual Property of Bosnia and Herzegovina Josip Merdžo and the president of Turkish Patent Institute Prof. Dr. Habip Asan signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between these two state institutions in terms of improving intellectual property system and on cooperation in the field of processing and examining patent applications.

After the document passed the procedure in the BiH Presidency, an opportunity was seized during the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization to hold a bilateral meeting at which successful cooperation between the two institutes was stressed, that resulted in the signing of this Memorandum.

The significance of this Memorandum is all the greater if one takes into account that the Turkish Patent Institute, right at this year's session of the WIPO’s General Assembly, pursuant to decision of the PCT Union's Assembly, received the status of the body of 'international search' i.e. body of international prior art search and of optional evaluation of the novelty and inventive step.

Jovan Šarac, deputy director and ambassador Lucija Ljubić Lepine, Head of BiH Mission to the UN in Geneva also attended signing of the Memorandum.
