Mostar: International seminar on the development of IP policies in universities and research institutions
Mostar, November 24, 2016 - International seminar on the development of intellectual property policies in universities and research institutions was held on November 23, 2016 at the amphitheatre of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Mostar.
Institutionalization of intellectual property policies is important for successful cooperation between the academe and partners in the market because it makes it easier to protect and manage intellectual property, respectively inventions generated in universities and research institutions, with a view to their further development, usually through some form of commercialization; it was pointed out, inter alia, at the seminar.
Participants in the seminar were representatives of the Institute for Intellectual Property of Bosnia and Herzegovina, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and University of Mostar, as organizers, panellists from Poland, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Albania as well as representatives of institutions and the academe in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Introductory words and thematic presentations at the seminar were held by Josip Merdžo, director of the Institute for Intellectual Property, Ljerka Ostojić, rector of the University of Mostar and Olga Spasić, counselor in WIPO's Department for Transition and Developed Countries.
Thematic presentations were also held by assistant professor Ana Dujmović from the Faculty of Law of the University of Mostar, Dr. Justyna Ożegalska-Trybalska of the Intellectual Property Law Chair at Jagiellonian University in Cracow, Dragana Marić Mešić, expert assistant for patents in BiH Institute for Intellectual Property and Mohammad Alhabbal, consultant in WIPO's Department for Transition and Developed Countries.
In the panel discussion on current situation regarding intellectual property policies at universities and research institutions in the region speakers were Altin Maliqi, specialist, lecturer on intellectual property policies from the Department of Civil and Private Law at Luarasi University in Albania, Gelina Maliqi, director of the Career Counseling Office at Luarasi University in Albania, Mirjana Dozan, investment advisor at the Innovation Center "Nikola Tesla" of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Zagreb, Jelena Zelinčević, IP manager at the Faculty Electro-Technical of the University of Montenegro, Daniela Zlatić Šutić head of the Education and Information Center in the Intellectual Property Office of Serbia, Urša Jerše, technology transfer officer at the Slovenian Institute of Chemistry and Dragi Raskovski, professor at the Faculty of Law "Instinianus Primus" from Skopje.
Within the seminar, final consultations were held in Sarajevo on November 24.
