Seminar on collective management of copyright and related rights held in Mostar
Mostar, June 6, 2018 - Institute for Intellectual Property of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in co-operation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), organized a two-day seminar titled “Collective Management of Copyright and Related Rights - Sharing of Experiences and Good Practices”, held on the 5th and 6th of June 2018 in Mostar.
Welcoming addresses to the participants of the seminar, including representatives of collective organizations for the management of copyright and related rights from Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as representatives of user associations, were given by the director of the Institute for Intellectual Property of BiH Josip Merdžo and Anita Huss, adviser in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Manda Galić, expert assistant for copyright in the Institute for Intellectual Property of Bosnia and Herzegovina spoke on the protection of copyright in Bosnia and Herzegovina through collective management of copyright and related rights, while representative of WIPO Anita Huss introduced participants of the seminar with recent activities of that organization in the field of copyright, Beijing Treaty and other developments.
Romana Matanovac Vučković, international expert from Zagreb, spoke about basic legal-political and structural aspects of collective management of copyright and related rights in international and European legal frameworks.
About good practices of collective management organizations and the codes of conduct of international federations presentations were given by Mitko Chatalbashev, representative of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), Pierre-Olivier Lesburguères, representative of the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO), István Fancsik from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) and Gregor Štibernik from the Collecting Society of Authors, Performers and Film Producers of Audiovisual Works of Slovenia (AIPA), also representing Society of Audiovisual Authors (SAA) from Brussels.
Seminar also referred to the importance of strengthening awareness of the collective management of copyright and related rights and to challenges in collective management in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. Significant amount of time was also dedicated to current issues in this area.
Emphasized was the importance of cooperation of all participants in the process of collective management of copyright and related rights and concluded that seminars such as this one contribute to building and strengthening the regulation of collective management of copyright and related rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
