Promotion of the inclusion of Cazin Chestnut Honey on WIPO list of protected geographical origin products
Cazin, September 22, 2018 - Delegation of the Institute for Intellectual Property of BiH, headed by the director of the Institute Josip Merdžo, participated in the promotion of the entry of 'Cazin Chestnut Honey' in the international register of the appellations of origin in accordance with the Lisbon Agreement for the Protection of Appellations of Origin and their International Registration kept at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), headquartered in Geneva.
This remarkable achievement was realized thanks to the association of beekeepers “Kesten” from Cazin, led by Hazim Hodžic, president.
Director of the Institute emphasized in his address the importance of product branding, and that Bosnia and Herzegovina has a great potential in the protection of quality products especially in organic production. Mayor of Cazin Nermin Ogrešević also welcomed this success of the Cazinian beekeepers, stressing that the municipality has been helping beekeeping in the municipality with incentives for a long time.
In the course of the ceremony, letters of appreciation were presented to the Institute for Intellectual Property of BiH, USAID, Cazin Municipality, Bihać Veterinary Office, representatives of the academic community from Tuzla, and other individuals and institutions who contributed to the successful inclusion of Cazin Chestnut Honey on the list of products with protected geographical origin.
In the delegation of the Institute, with the director Josip Merdžo, were also Boris Sesar, secretary of the Institute and Miroslav Marić, expert advisor for international trademark.
